SOP Fracture Repair for Broken Bones
If your pet has broken its leg, we offer after hour emergency services, x-rays, and a plan to manage the pain. Then we work with you to decide what the best way to fix that broken bone will be.
Commonly, we will use the Orthomed SOP interlocking plate system. The SOP interlocking plate system was designed for use in both human and veterinary bone surgeries. The SOP (String of Pearls) is placed under the skin and contoured specifically for your pet’s fracture to provide extra stability. The implant is held in place by locking medical-grade screws. We use a standard fracture scoring plan to decide the best course of action for the type of broken bone your pet has. This system allows us to get dogs and cats back to full movement faster, and with fewer risks of complications. The SOP interlocking plate system can be used in the following applications:
- Fractures of the femur
- Fractures of the humerus
- Fractures of the tibia
- Fractures of the antebrachium
- Pelvic fractures
- Rod – plate constructs
- Spinal Fractures
- Surgical spine distraction-fusion
Dr. Dorn has completed training courses to perform this procedure. She is happy to accept referrals or new clients for orthopedic surgeries on dogs in Dell Rapids and the surrounding areas.
